New Israel Fund is the leading organization committed
to equality and democracy for all Israelis.
Ronit will speak directly following Shabbat Services
"These days, it is simply not enough for an organization to be right; it also has to be pragmatic and able to facilitate real change. While it's important for social rights groups to be gatekeepers and raise awareness about certain issues, they also need to be able to propose change and provide alternative real solutions – that is how Shatil has been able to help them."
- Ronit Heyd, Executive Director, Shatil, Jerusalem Post , July 23, 2010
Shatil ("seedling" in Hebrew) was established by the New Israel Fund in 1982 to strengthen civil society in Israel. Today, Shatil is the primary agent for social change in Israel, promoting a society based on social, economic and environmental justice, human and civil rights and cultural and religious pluralism.
Shatil's unique role is to influence processes and policies by bringing together all who share the vision of a just and equitable society. Shatil's' work strengthens Israel's democracy by increasing citizen involvement in the processes of government and the quest for equality and social justice.
